Why images end up so heavy
File size is how much storage an image uses, measured in kilobytes (KB) or megabytes (MB). A phone camera records far more detail than a web form needs, so an untouched photo is often several megabytes.
Screenshots and exported PNG files are heavy for a different reason: PNG stores every pixel exactly, which is useful for text and logos and wasteful for photographs.
How Filnixa reduces it
It re-encodes the image at a lower quality setting and checks the result after each attempt, narrowing in on the largest version that still fits under your limit.
If compression alone cannot reach the target, it reduces the pixel dimensions in steps and tries again, keeping the original proportions.
Your original file is never modified. You can change the limit and run it again as many times as you like.
